전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
K&L 뮤지엄은 오는 8월 30일, 20세기 모더니즘의 거장 위프레도 람(Wifredo Lam)의 국내 첫 대규모 판화전을 선보입니다.
쿠바에서 태어난 위프레도 람은 아프리카와 카리브해 문화적 전통과, 유럽 아방가르드를 자신만의 조형 언어로 풀어낸 작가입니다. 다양한 문화적 뿌리와 정체성에서 출발한 그의 작업은 오늘날 디아스포라와 탈식민주의, 문화적 혼종성을 탐구한 선구적 예술로 다시 평가받고 있습니다.
한불 수교 140주년을 기념하여 교류와 협업의 미학을 전달하는 이번 전시에서는 위프레도 람의 판화 59점을 비롯한 다양한 오리지널 아카이브 자료를 만나보실 수 있습니다. 회화가 신화적 상상력과 정치적 비전을 펼쳐낸 무대였다면, 판화는 그 사유를 더욱 응축된 시각 언어로 담아낸 람의 핵심적 창작 매체였습니다.
Opening on August 30, K&L Museum presents the first large-scale exhibition in Korea of prints by Wifredo Lam, a master of twentieth-century modernism.
Born in Cuba, Wifredo Lam drew on African and Caribbean cultural traditions alongside the European avant-garde, resolving them into a formal language of his own. Rooted in multiple cultural origins and identities, his work is being reassessed today as a pioneering art that explored diaspora, postcolonialism, and cultural hybridity.
Marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, the exhibition conveys an aesthetics of exchange and collaboration, presenting 59 prints by Wifredo Lam along with a range of original archival material. If painting was the stage on which he unfolded mythic imagination and political vision, printmaking was the medium in which that thinking took its most concentrated visual form.
