전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
P21은 3월 21일부터 4월 25일까지 뮌헨을 기반으로 활동하는 김주영의 국내 첫 개인전 Holding Lounge를 개최합니다.
작가는 최근 바이에른주 과학·예술부가 수여하는 2025바이에른 예술진흥상을 수상하였고, 싱가포르 비엔날레에 참여하는 등 독일 미술계의 주목을 받으며 국제 무대에서 활발한 활동을 이어가고 있습니다.
이번 개인전에서는 전시장 공간을 비행기 객실과 작은 미술관, 그리고 익명의 사무 공간이 겹쳐진 듯한 장소로 전환합니다. 이 공간은 공항 라운지가 지닌 밝고 개방적인 이미지와는 거리가 있는 대신, 기내에서 커튼 뒤편에 위치한 조용한 구역, 반쯤은 사적이면서도 묘하게 공적인 성격을 지닌 공간을 연상 시킵니다. 편안함보다는 기능이 우선되는 사무실 한켠처럼, 이곳은 중립성과 부드러운 관료적 감각을 띠며 이동과 대기, 통과와 유예의 감각을 동시에 환기합니다.

P21 presents Holding Lounge, the first solo exhibition in Korea by Munich-based artist Ju Young Kim, on view from March 21 to April 25.
Kim has drawn significant attention in the German art scene after receiving the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize (Visual Arts) awarded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts in 2025 and continues to be actively engaged on the international stage, including participation in the Singapore Biennale.
Holding Lounge turns the exhibition space into that feels part airplane cabin, part small museum room, and part anonymous office environment. It is not the bright, open atmosphere of an airport lounge. Instead, it evokes the quieter area behind the curtain on a flight, a semiprivate zone that feels strangely public at the same time. It carries the neutrality and soft bureaucracy of an office corner, a place designed for function but not for comfort.
