전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
리만머핀은 프랑스, 알제리 출신 작가 카데르 아티아의 신작 개인전 《Irreparable Repairs: 되돌리지 않는 수리》를 개최한다. 지난 20여 년간 작가는 사진, 조각, 설치, 영상 등 다양한 매체를 통해 '상처와 수리(injury and repair)'라는 개념을 탐구해 왔다. 그의 작업은 사회와 개인이 역사적 트라우마의 흔적을 어떻게 몸에 새기고 살아가는지, 그리고 그 상처가 완전히 지워지지 않은 채 어떻게 '수리'되는지 고찰한다. 이러한 개념은 식민주의의 역사와 개인적 트라우마, 집단 기억을 관통하는 은유로 작동하며 아티아 작업 세계의 핵심을 이룬다.
아티아는 서울 첫 개인전 《Irreparable Repairs: 되돌리지 않는 수리》에서 이러한 작업의 근간을 확장하여, 최근 집중하고 있는 '파편과 집결(fragmentation and gathering)'의 개념을 비롯해 샤머니즘, 신비주의, 그리고 기억의 흔적이 개인과 집단의 의식에 미치는 영향에 대한 탐구를 이어간다.
Lehmann Maupin presents Irreparable Repairs, an exhibition of new work by French-Algerian artist Kader Attia. For more than 20 years Attia's practice has been rooted in notions of injury and repair through works that span photography, sculpture, installation, and video. His work examines how societies and individuals bear the marks of historical trauma—and how those wounds are "repaired," though never erased. This idea serves as a metaphor for colonial histories, personal trauma, and collective memory throughout Attia's work. In Irreparable Repairs, Attia's first solo exhibition in Seoul, the artist expands on this fundamental tenet of his practice to explore his recent interests in ideas of fragmentation and gathering, as well as themes of Shamanism, mysticism, and the effects of mnemonic traces on individual and collective consciousness.
