전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
오늘 우리는 이미지와 정보, 사물과 사건이 끊임없이 밀려드는 흐름 속에 살고 있다. 새로운 것은 계속 등장하지만 대부분은 의미 있는 관계를 맺기 전에 소비되고 잊힌다. 등장 자체가 과잉이 된 시대에, 무엇이 우리에게 지각 가능한 것이 되는지, 그리고 어떻게 그렇게 되는지 묻는 일이 더욱 중요해진다.
《Modes of Emergence》는 서로 다른 물질과 행위, 시간성과 환경이 교차하며 형태와 관계가 발생하는 방식을 살핀다. 여기에서 발생이란 완결된 형태가 돌연 나타나는 사건이 아니다. 반복과 축적, 생성과 변형, 제약과 조정의 지속적인 과정을 통해 서서히 자리를 잡아가는 상태에 가깝다.
이판희, 최리아, 최선아의 작업에서 형태는 미리 정해진 하나의 목적지를 향해 나아가지 않는다. 세 작가는 각자의 방식으로 지난 작업을 다시 들여다보며, 반복을 통해 시간 속에 축적된 요소들을 끌어올려 새로운 관계로 재구성한다.
Today, we live amidst a ceaseless flood of images, information, objects, and events. The new continually emerges, yet most of it is consumed and forgotten before it can form meaningful relations. At a time when emergence itself has become excessive, it is all the more important to ask what becomes perceptible to us, and how.
Modes of Emergence examines how forms and relations emerge through the intersection of different materials, actions, temporalities, and environments. Here, emergence is not the sudden appearance of a completed form. Rather, it is a state that gradually takes shape through ongoing processes of repetition and accumulation, generation and transformation, constraint and adjustment.
In the works of Fanhee Lee, Ria Choi, and Sunah Choi, form does not advance toward a single predetermined destination. By revisiting past practices, the three artists bring forward elements accumulated over time through repetition and reconfigure them into new relations, each in their own way.
