전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
시간과 장소를 특정하기 어려운 마리나 레인간츠의 풍경 회화는 사진과 회화·직물의 참조, 그리고 브라질 시골에 대한 기억이 축적된 작가의 아카이브에서 출발합니다. 보고 느끼고 기억한 것들이 접히며 고정되지 않고 변화하는 풍경으로 이어집니다.
물감을 거듭 올리고 걷어내며 형성된 화면은 그 자체로 지형과 같은 성질을 띱니다. 물감은 쌓이고 얇아지고 스미고 물러나며, 형상은 떠올랐다가 다시 흐려집니다.
레인간츠는 풍경을 고정된 상태로 기술하는 대신 끊임없이 다시 만들어지는 과정에 주목하며, 성장과 소진, 침식과 퇴적의 과정을 물질을 다루는 방식으로 되울립니다.
Eluding any stable identification of time or place, the landscape paintings of Marina Rheingantz issue from the artist's evolving archive of photographs, painterly and textile references and memories of rural Brazil, folding what has been seen, sensed and remembered into unmoored, mutable vistas.
Formed through successive applications and removals of paint, their surfaces take on a topographical disposition of their own: paint gathers, thins, stains and recedes, forms emerge and become obscured again.
Rather than describing landscape as a fixed condition, Rheingantz attends to its continual remaking, echoing processes of growth, depletion, erosion and sedimentation through a handling of material that leaves her forms provisional and vulnerable to alteration.
