전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

국제갤러리는 5월 10일(일)까지 K1에서 박찬경의 개인전 《안구선사(眼球禪師)》를 선보입니다. 이번 전시는 작가가 국제갤러리에서 9년 만에 선보이는 전시로, 최근 작업한 회화 20여 점을 중심으로 구성됩니다.
이번 전시를 통해 작가는 기존에 주로 다뤄왔던 영상과 사진에서 벗어나 회화로 전개하는 작가의 작업들을 보여주는데요. 작가는 사찰 벽화와 조선 민화를 빌어오고 해석하면서, 민간의 전통 미학에 내재한 그로테스크, 숭고, 판타지, 유머를 드러내는데요. 이번 전시에서 작가는 개인의 독창성이나 개성을 전면에 내세우기보다는 공동체 내 반복되고 전승되는 과정에서 개입된 익명의 창조성에 주목합니다.

Kukje Gallery presents Park Chan-kyong’s solo exhibition Zen Master Eyeball at K1, on view through May 10. Presenting Park Chan-kyong’s works at Kukje Gallery for the first time in 9 years, the exhibition highlights over 20 of his recent paintings.
Through this exhibition, Park introduces a new body of work that moves beyond his major works of video and photography. By drawing upon temple murals and Joseon-dynasty folk paintings, he reveals the grotesque, the sublime, fantasy, and humor embedded within traditional folk aesthetics. Rather than focusing on individual originality or personal expression, Park brings forth the notion of anonymous creativity that emerges through processes of repetition and transmission accumulated over time within a community.
