전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
김상하, 박기덕, 아이작 실버, 앵 보, 켄타로 타카하시, 황예지 가 참여하는 전시 <레드 스터디>는 개인의 신체를 작동시키는 피에서부터 집단 속 혁명과 저항, 국가와 이념을 표상하는 정치적 기호에 이르기까지, 빨간색 속의 다양한 생각들과 함께 우리와 매일을 살아가고 있는 근현대사의 잔여물에 주목합니다. 생명과 죽음, 욕망과 폭력, 해방과 억압 등 상반되는 의미를 동시에 내포하는 빨간색만큼 서로 다른 시대와 장소 속에서 발견되는 얽히고 섥혀있는 공산주의와 식민주의의 잔재, 냉전의 기억, 분열되고 극단화된 정치적 이념의 남은 일상적이고 미세한 파편들을 관찰합니다. 공식적인 역사와 제도화된 기록이 포착하지 못하거나 종종 그 범주 밖으로 밀려나는 이미지와 사건, 사적인 기억과 과정의 부스럼을 발견하고 수집하는 매일의 실천에 기반한 사진, 설치, 퍼포먼스, 사운드 작업은 지나간 것으로 간주되는 역사의 일상성, 현재성을 점검하고 종종 무감각, 피로, 회의에 휩싸이는 개인과 집단의 정치적 감각을 돌보고자 합니다.
The exhibition Red Study, featuring Sangha Khym, Kideok Park, Isaac Silber, Anh Vo, Kentaro Takahashi, and Yezoi Hwang, focuses on the remnants of modern and contemporary history that living with us everyday with many ideas embedded in the color “red”—from the blood that makes human body function to the political symbol of revolution, resistance, nationhood, and ideology. Simultaneously, “red” evokes opposing meanings—life and death, desire and violence, liberation and oppression. In this sense, the exhibition observes the intertwined and entangled residues of communism and colonialism, memories of the Cold War, and the everyday, tiny fragments left behind by divided and radicalized political ideologies across different times and places. Through photography, installation, performance, and sound works grounded in daily practices of discovering and collecting images and events that official histories and institutionalized records fail to capture.
