전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Edmond Brooks-Beckman (b. 1987, UK) approaches painting as a site of pressure, where material, structure, and perception are held in tension. Working primarily in oil painting, and for this exhibition in mixed media, he pushes the surface beyond its conventions, layering and stressing it until it begins to exceed its own limits. Through this process, the works remain unstable, oscillating between control and collapse, clarity and opacity.
This exhibition marks the artist’s fourth presentation with the gallery and his second in Seoul. Building on earlier projects, the works extend Brooks-Beckman’s ongoing investigation into systems of organisation, authority, and the conditions that shape how we see and relate to one another.
Recent works develop a recurring vocabulary of enclosures, partitions, and tables. These structures act less as settings than as frameworks that organise visibility while producing its limits. Drawing on the spatial logic of the classroom, a formative site of discipline and repetition, the works translate experiences of control, attention, and subtle resistance into material terms. Surfaces begin to tremble, edges lose stability, and what appears fixed reveals itself as contingent. In these works, structure is never resolved but continuously tested, holding open a space where relation, meaning, and image remain unsettled.
