전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
타데우스 로팍 서울은 한 빙(Han Bing), 메간 루니(Megan Rooney), 조안 스나이더(Joan Snyder)의 작품을 한데 모은 그룹전 《마음의 눈(That Inward Eye)》을 개최한다. 국내에서 세 작가의 작품을 함께 선보이는 것은 처음으로, 총 16여 점이 전시된다. 본 전시는 회화에 대한 이들만의 독특한 접근 방식과 그 과정에서 발생하는 교차점 및 차이점을 탐구한다. 서로 다른 문화적, 물질적, 지리적 배경 속에서 활동하는 세 작가는 화면을 단순히 안료를 입히는 표면으로 국한하지 않고, 그 심연을 파고들거나 매체에 정면으로 맞서며 치열하게 교감해야 할 대상으로 여긴다. 이들에게 화면은 단순한 테두리나 지지체를 넘어, 능동적으로 조율하고 넘나들어야 하는 하나의 경계로 작용한다. 결과적으로 이들의 회화는 색채와 몸짓, 재료뿐만 아니라 시간과 기억, 그리고 내밀한 감정까지도 온전히 품어내는 일종의 그릇이 된다.

Thaddaeus Ropac Seoul is pleased to present That Inward Eye, a group exhibition bringing together a selection of works by Han Bing, Megan Rooney and Joan Snyder. Marking the first presentation of their work in Korea, the exhibition explores the artists’ distinct approaches to painting, and the various points at which these intersect and diverge. Working across different cultural, material and geographical contexts, the artists explore the picture plane not just as a surface to work onto, but into and against. Rather than a simple edge or support, it becomes a boundary to actively negotiate and pass through. Painting, in turn, provides a kind of container – holding time, memory and feeling as much as colour, gesture and material.
