전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
KEYSHAPE의 다음 전시는 한국을 기반으로 활동하는 배서홍, 유형우 작가의 이인전 《The Knot》으로 문을 엽니다.
배서홍과 유형우는 일상의 사물과 지나간 작업을 다시 바라보며, 미처 끝맺지 못한 순간들을 새로운 형태로 이어간다. 두 작가에게 작업은 완성된 결과라기보다 망설이고, 풀어내고, 다시 이어가는 과정에 가깝다.
배서홍은 일상의 찰나와 사물을 화면으로 옮기며 고민과 망설임 속에서 모호한 형태를 만들어낸다. 멈춰버린 작업을 시간이 지난 뒤 다시 마주하며, 그는 과거에 남겨둔 생각과 이미지를 새로운 시선으로 이어간다.
유형우는 각목과 합판 등의 목재를 자르고 붙이며 익숙한 재료 속에서 새로운 형태를 발견한다. 큰 덩어리를 잘라낸 조각들은 이전에 보이지 않았던 단면과 모습을 드러내고, 그는 그 위에 다시 형태를 더하며 새로운 매듭을 만들어간다.
《이것은 매듭에 대한 이야기》는 두 작가가 지나간 것들을 다시 꺼내어 보고, 풀고, 이어 붙이는 과정을 이야기한다. 여기서 매듭은 끝맺음이 아니라 멈춤과 시작 사이에 놓인 하나의 과정이다. 풀어낸 자리에는 또 다른 형태의 매듭이 생겨나고, 그렇게 작업은 다시 이어진다.
KEYSHAPE opens its next exhibition with The Knot, a two-person show by Korea-based artists Seohong Bae and Hyeongwoo Ryu.
Bae and Ryu look again at everyday objects and at work they once set aside, carrying unfinished moments forward in new form. For both artists, making is less a finished result than a process of hesitating, undoing, and picking the thread back up.
Seohong Bae moves fleeting moments and ordinary objects onto the picture plane, drawing ambiguous forms out of doubt and hesitation. Returning after time has passed to work that had come to a halt, they take up thoughts and images left behind in the past and carry them on with a new eye.
Hyeongwoo Ryu cuts and joins timber and plywood, finding unfamiliar forms inside familiar material. Pieces cut away from larger masses reveal cross-sections and profiles that were never visible before, and they add further form on top of those, tying new knots.
This Is a Story About Knots follows the two artists as they take out what has passed, untie it, and join it back together. Here a knot is not an ending but a stage that sits between stopping and starting again. Where something is untied, another knot takes shape, and the work continues.
