전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
페이스는 프리드리히 쿠나스의 신작 회화와 드로잉을 선보이는 개인전 《가장 가까운 먼 곳》을 개최합니다. 서울 페이스에서 열리는 작가의 첫 개인전이자, 2025년 갤러리에 합류한 이후 두 번째 전시입니다.
쿠나스는 거리와 (재)위치라는 주제를 탐구하며, 지금 있는 곳과 도달해야 할 곳 사이에서 피어나는 그리움을 그립니다. 길은 모퉁이 너머, 언덕 너머, 지평선 너머로 사라지고, 인물은 자신이 바라보는 노을을 배경으로 실루엣이 되어 관람자를 안으로, 스스로에게로 이끕니다.
독일에서 태어나 로스앤젤레스와 유럽을 오가며 작업하는 작가는 시간과 장소 사이의 공간에 머무릅니다. 최근작에서 그는 자신과 바깥 세계를 가르는 거리를 성찰하며, 각각의 회화에 그리움과 멜랑콜리의 정서를 담아냅니다.
Pace will present The Nearest Faraway Place, a solo exhibition of new paintings and drawings by Friedrich Kunath. This marks the artist's first solo exhibition with Pace in Seoul and his second exhibition since joining the gallery's program in 2025.
Across the exhibited works, Kunath explores themes of distance and (re)location, where a longing emerges between the place you're in and the place you're destined to be. Roads disappear around corners, over hills, and beyond horizons; figures are silhouetted by the sunsets they gaze upon, luring the spectator inward, toward themselves. As we look out onto the world, the world looks back at us, revealing our weaknesses and uncertainties.
The German-born painter, based between Los Angeles and Europe, divides his time across continents, inhabiting the space between time and place. In his latest works, he reflects on the distance separating himself from the outside world, with each painting considering feelings of longing and melancholy.
