전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
《(불)투명한 마음》는 사랑이라는 이름 아래 여성의 삶을 조직하고 규율하는 현실을 ‘순정(純情) 병원’이라는 가상의 공간으로 옮겨놓는다. 여러 문화적 경계를 가로지르며 여성의 삶을 탐구해온 비비 주는 병원이 증상을 진단하고 사례를 분류하듯, 사랑의 형태로 여성에게 부여되어온 역할과 언어를 하나의 진단 체계로 시뮬레이션한다. 관람객은 진료의 형식을 띤 보이스오버를 따라가며 해당 공간을 경험하게 된다.
전시는 오토메 게임 팬덤의 여성 간 역할극과 ‘일일 남자친구’ 문화를 담은 ⟨나의 마음을 (언)록⟩(2025), 다마고치의 형식과 쿠로코(黒子)의 존재를 경유해 여성의 보이지 않는 돌봄을 다루는 ⟨정물 (여기에는 볼 것이 없다)⟩(2026), 상하이의 오래된 화이극 극장에 남은 이주민 극단 공동체를 따라가는 ⟨고리가 끊어지면, 매듭은 풀린다⟩(2024), 아부다비의 불법 마사지 업소를 배경으로 한 ⟨어항⟩(2023), 작가의 조부모가 서로의 초상화를 그리는 과정을 기록한 ⟨초상화⟩(2026)로 구성된다.
《(불)투명한 마음》은 사랑을 기반으로 작동하는 규범의 언어를 진단하며, 그 바깥에서 이미 존재해왔지만 쉽게 이름 붙여지지 못했던 관계와 공동체, 그리고 삶의 형식을 드러낸다. (글: 김선 (독립 큐레이터))
(Un)Trustworthy Hearts is a dramaturgical exhibition that explores how love and desire are scripted, commodified, and regulated under the contemporary social, technological and political conditions. Staged within the fictional setting of The Pure Love Hospital, the exhibition draws on Vivi Zhu’s research into women’s lives across different cultural boundaries. In the same way that a hospital diagnoses symptoms and classifies cases, Zhu constructs a diagnostic system that examines the roles and forms of language assigned to women in the name of love. Visitors move through the exhibition guided by a voiceover narrated in the style of a clinical consultation.
My Heart (On) Unlock (2025) depicts role-play and ‘one-day boyfriend’ culture prevalent among women in the otome game(乙女ゲーム) fandom. Through the form of the Tamagotchi and the presence of kuroko (黒子), 𝘚𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 (Nothing Here to See, 2026) addresses the invisible care performed by women. In A knot can be untied if the loop is broken (2024), an old Shanghainese theatre is under threat of demolition, jeopardizing a Huai opera troupe’s community of migrants who consider the theatre home. 𝘍𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘛𝘢𝘯𝘬 (2023) is set in an illegal massage parlour in Abu Dhabi; Portraits(2026) documents the artist’s grandparents’ sketches of each other over the course of one year. (Written by Sun Kim)
