관람료: 1,000원 《서화무진》은 시대를 초월해 붓끝으로 세계를 빚어낸 예술가들의 이야기다. 이들의 마법같은 붓끝이 남긴 흔적들은 곧 기운생동(氣韻生動)하는 생명의 기록이자, 끝을 알 수 없이 이어지는 무한한 세계의 투영이다. 이번 전시 《서화무진 When the Brush Moves, the World Continues》은 예술가들의 붓끝에서 시작된 작은 움직임이 어떻게 거대한 예술적 조류가 되어 우리의 오늘을 관통하고 있는지 조명하고자 한다. 시(詩), 서(書), 화(畵)는 한 시대의 정신을 담는 세 갈래의 예술이자, 옛 문인들이 세계를 표현하던 가장 섬세한 언어였다. 정선의 진경산수에는 조선의 산하가 숨 쉬고, 김홍도의 풍속화는 삶의 숨결을 그려내며, 김정희의 추사체는 한 글자에 사유의 깊이를 새겼다. 이 전시는 그들의 예술혼에서 오늘의 한국화로 이어지는 시서화의 계보를 탐색한다. 붓과 먹, 한지 위에서 시간은 흐르고, 예술의 본질은 변주된다. 현대의 작가들은 전통의 기법과 정신을 계승하면서도, 자신만의 감각과 언어로 새로운 ‘시서화’를 써 내려가고 있다. 전시는 크게 1부와 2부, 그리고 어미홀로 구성된다. 먼저 1부 《붓이 움직일 때,》에서는 한국 전통 회화의 현대적 계승과 변용을 함께 마주한다. 화가들의 필묵에는 자연의 섭리와 인간의 내면이 응축되어 있다. 이들의 붓질은 단순히 형상을 재현하는 것에 그치지 않고, 보이지 않는 정신의 세계를 가시화하는 귀한 첫 발자국이 된다. 이어 2부 《세상은 이어지고》에서는 그 오래된 붓질이 현대라는 시간의 층위 위에서 어떻게 변주되고 확장되는지 살핀다. 기법의 경계를 허물고 재료의 한계를 넘어서며, 한국화는 ‘지금, 여기’의 세상을 담아내는 유연하고도 강인한 생명력을 증명한다. 어미홀 《천지, 근원에 대한 그리움》에서는 세대를 달리하는 네 명의 작가들이 철학적, 종교적, 관념적 고민을 반영한 세상의 풍경을 제안한다. 이들이 세상을 바라보고 담아낸 각기 다른 풍경들이 모여 어미홀에서 조화롭게 펼쳐진다. 다채로운 시대상과 작가들이 함께 하는 이 전시는 한국미의 어제와 오늘, 그리고 내일을 마주하며 시대의 경계를 넘어 우리 안의 예술적 감수성과 사유의 깊이를 일깨우는 자리가 될 것이다. 붓이 멈추지 않는 한, 한국화가 그리는 세계는 끝없이 이어진다. 이 전시가 시공간을 초월하는 한국화의 무한한 세계를 경험하는 귀한 기회가 되기를 바란다. 자료 출처: 대구미술관 이미지: 김선두, 밤길 (2026). 대구미술관

Admission: 1,000 KRW When the Brush Moves, the World Continues tells the story of artists who, across time, have shaped worlds at the tip of a brush. What remains are traces alive with spirit resonance and life-motion, mirroring infinite cosmoses that ceaselessly emerge and expand. This exhibition When the Brush Moves, the World Continues aims to illuminate the way a single brushstroke's inception evolves into a vast artistic current that continues to course through our contemporary moment. The triad of poetry, calligraphy, and painting constituted the primary channels by which the literati expressed their worldview—refined tools that carried the intellectual currents of their time. In Jeong Seon’s true-view landscape, the mountains and rivers of Joseon emerge as a living presence. Kim Hongdo’s genre paintings render life’s rhythms visible while Kim Jeonghui’s Chusa script inscribes layers of contemplation within a single character. The exhibition traces the genealogy of poetry, calligraphy, and painting, connecting their artistic soul to Korean painting of our time. Across brush, ink, and hanji (Korean paper), time flows while art’s essence discovers new variations. Contemporary artists carry forward inherited methods and spirit, inscribing their own versions of poetry-calligraphy-painting through distinctive sensibilities and vocabularies. The exhibition comprises three sections: Part I, Part II, and the Umi Hall. In Part I, When the Brush Moves, we encounter the essence of traditional Korean painting and its contemporary reinterpretations. The brush and ink of past masters hold within them the distilled essence of nature’s laws and human interiority. Their brushstrokes go beyond simply reproducing forms—they mark precious first steps in making the unseen world of spirit visible. The second section, The World Continues, explores how those earlier brushstrokes undergo transformation and expansion within the temporal strata of our contemporary moment. Dissolving technical boundaries, transcending material constraints, Korean painting demonstrates a supple yet resilient vitality, capable of encompassing the world as it exists “here and now.” In the Umi Hall, Sky and Earth: Longing for Origins features four artists across generations who envision landscapes of the world infused with philosophical, spiritual, and conceptual reflection. Their unique modes of seeing and articulating existence converge in a harmonious dialogue within this space. By weaving together multiple artistic voices and historical moments, this exhibition invites an encounter with Korean beauty across yesterday, today, and tomorrow, awakening our artistic sensibilities and deepening our reflection beyond the boundaries of time. As long as the brush continues its movement, the world of Korean painting unfolds without cessation. We hope that this exhibition aspires to offer a meaningful opportunity to encounter the boundless realm of Korean painting—one that transcends the limits of time and space.
