전시 소개 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
인류는 더 나은 삶의 방식을 찾아 끊임없이 기술을 발명하고 발전시켜 왔고, 각 세대는 당대에 가장 앞선 기술과 나란히 살아왔다. 백남준이 전자 매체의 등장을 목격한 20세기가 그러했듯, 오늘날 우리는 점점 더 인공지능(AI)과 함께 살아간다. AI는 우리가 사고하고 지각하고 판단하는 방식에 깊숙이 관여하며, 정보를 주고받는 도구를 넘어 인간과 기술 사이의 새로운 관계를 만들어 내고 있다.
《백색소음 : White Noise》는 기술을 단순한 도구가 아니라 관계가 형성되는 매체로 바라보는 두 작가를 함께 소개한다. 전시는 두 작가의 작업을 대화하게 하며, 기술이 인간의 사고 과정에 미치는 영향을 탐색한다.
전시장 한편에는 〈TV 첼로〉를 연상시키는 첼로 작업이 누드 드로잉, 영상 작업과 함께 놓인다. 첼로는 백남준이 샬럿 무어먼과 함께한 퍼포먼스를 환기하고, 누드 드로잉은 전자 매체와 뒤얽힌 신체를 암시한다. 각각의 작업은 신체와 기술이 어떻게 관계 맺는지, 그리고 기술이 인간의 인식과 경험을 통해 어떻게 새로운 의미를 얻는지 보여준다.
Human civilization has continuously invented and developed technology in pursuit of a better way of life, and each generation has lived alongside what was considered the most advanced technology of its time. This applied to the twentieth century, when Nam June Paik witnessed the emergence of electronic media — just as it is today, we are increasingly living alongside artificial intelligence (AI). AI is becoming deeply involved in how we think, perceive, and make decisions, building new forms of interaction between humans and technology and functioning as more than a tool for exchanging information.
The exhibition Nam June Paik – Kim Ryu: White Noise features two artists who approach technology not simply as a tool, but as a medium through which relationships are formed. The exhibition brings the two artists' works into dialogue, exploring technology's impact on human thought processes.
In one corner of the exhibition space, a cello work reminiscent of TV Cello is presented alongside nude drawings and video works. The cello evokes Nam June Paik's performance with Charlotte Moorman, while the nude drawing suggests the human body interlaced with electronic media.
