동시대는 하나의 현재로 통합되지 않는다. 같은 시간을 살아가더라도 각자가 놓인 자리와 지나온 경로, 감각하는 세계에 따라 서로 다른 속도와 밀도의 시간을 통과한다. 누군가는 이동과 정착 사이에서, 누군가는 사회와 제도가 만든 규범의 경계에서, 또 다른 누군가는 반복되는 노동과 돌봄, 사라지는 장소와 기억 속에서 자신의 시간을 이어간다.
2026 현대미술 기획전 《서로를 모르지만 같은 밤을 지난다》는 이러한 불균질한 시간들이 하나의 질서로 수렴하지 않은 채 나란히 존재하는 풍경을 바라본다. ‘온새미로: 재편되는 공동체와 공동의 감각’을 주제로, 서로 다른 위치와 경험을 지닌 존재들이 어떻게 같은 현재를 지나며 관계를 맺고 공동의 감각을 만들어 가는지 살펴본다.
전시 제목의 ‘서로를 모르지만’은 타인의 삶을 완전히 이해하거나 하나의 언어로 설명할 수 없다는 사실에서 출발한다. 그러나 ‘같은 밤을 지난다’는 말처럼, 서로 다른 삶은 완전히 분리된 세계에 머물지 않는다. 각자의 시간은 어긋나고 중첩되며, 불완전한 동시성 속에서 서로의 현실과 관계를 맺는다.
김유정, 레이지비디오, 슬미 앤드 재엔더플루이드(강예슬미 & 백재화), 신이피, 윤이도, 이은정, 이현우, 조민아, 조혜정, 황귀영 등 10인/팀의 작가는 이주와 정착, 정체성과 규범, 지역과 일상, 기억과 애도, 반복과 축적의 문제를 다양한 매체로 풀어낸다. 전시는 서로를 온전히 알지 못하더라도 함께 시간을 지나며 형성되는 관계의 가능성을 바라본다. 그 불완전하지만 지속되는 연결 속에서, 오늘날 공동체와 공동의 감각이 다시 만들어지는 순간을 발견하고자 한다.
The contemporary moment does not unfold as a single, unified present. Even as we inhabit the same time, each of us moves through it at a different pace and intensity, shaped by where we stand, the paths we have taken, and the worlds we perceive. Some live between migration and settlement; others along the boundaries of social norms and institutional structures; still others through the repetitions of labor and care, or amid places and memories that are gradually disappearing.
The 2026 Contemporary Art Exhibition, Strangers Under the Same Night, looks at this uneven terrain of time, where multiple presents coexist without converging into a single order. Under the theme Onsaemiro: Reconfiguring Community and a Shared Sensibility, the exhibition considers how people situated in different positions and experiences pass through the same present, form relationships, and create a sense of the common.
The phrase “strangers” begins with the recognition that another person’s life can never be fully understood or contained within a single language. Yet “under the same night” reminds us that these lives do not belong to entirely separate worlds. Their temporalities diverge and overlap, forming relationships with one another through an incomplete simultaneity.
The ten participating artists and collectives—Kim Yujeong, Lazy Video, Seulmi and Genderfluid (Kang Yeseulmi & Baek Jaehwa), Shin E.P., Yoon Yido, Lee Eunjung, Lee Hyunwoo, Cho Mina, Cho Hyejung, and Hwang Guiyoung—explore migration and settlement, identity and social norms, locality and everyday life, memory and mourning, repetition and accumulation through a range of media and forms.
Strangers Under the Same Night considers the possibility of relation that emerges as different lives move through a shared time without ever fully knowing one another. Within these incomplete yet enduring connections, the exhibition seeks moments in which community and a shared sensibility are continually reconfigured in the present.
